Size: 150 x 80 mm
Origin and time: late 16th and early 17th Centuries
Austrian National Library, Vienna
Inv. No. E 4409C* RF

The double page shows a splendid frame of geometrically arranged merlons (in palmette form) in blue, gold and red, suspended to the very end of the page with dainty blue bracings, a characteristic feature of Islamic art in the late 16th and early 17th Centuries. The surfaces of both miniatures show creases and breakages.

Right painting: Two-year-old Yusuf is brought to his father Ya´qub
In a lush green garden landscape the father is sitting in a yellow robe on a carpet while a man holding little Yusuf is kneeling beside him. Ya´qub and Yusuf have flame aureoles above their heads. In the foreground, other male family members in yellow, vermillion red, violet and light blue robes are sitting or kneeling.
